A bit late for New Year’s Resolution-ing but here is my take on it all…
I don’t know about anyone else, but the New Year is never as exciting for me as the end of the previous one. It seems to me that I spend most of the year anticipating the last quarter of it; you know, the one with all the decorations and goodies and fun? It can be difficult to readjust to “normal” life once the new year rolls around. It means the end of the holiday season, taking down all the holiday decor and packing it up for next year, getting back to eating healthily, not to mention getting started on all those “resolutions” we seem to make. Ugh. It’s really quite awful when you think about it.
So what’s a poor, holiday-loving girl to do? Come up with some fun new projects to occupy her time and get her butt out of this post-holiday funk obviously! And, to that end, I’ve come up with a small list of things I would like to attempt this year. I hesitate to use the words “resolve” or “resolution” since we all know most of those go out the window the minute I find a fantastic new show on Netflix or something. I find its much easier to have goals for myself or “To Do” Lists; anyway, here goes:
- Try out new recipes more often – I spend SOOOO much time on Pinterest (follow me if you like!) looking for great recipes but I often find that when it comes right down to it I don’t actually try
anymany of them out. So part of this goal includes trying to make more homemade foods…*le sigh* - Organize, Organize, Organize! – I can organize data like nobody’s business, but take one look at the closest in Bug’s (K’s son) room at our house or the garage (I warn you, it’s scary) and you’ll see I pretty much don’t organize a whole lot at home. So here’s hoping I can find something that works for me so that I can find a place of everything or get rid of the things I don’t want/need anymore. I’ve found a few websites/blogs that have good tips, but if y’all have ideas you’d like to share I’d love to hear ’em!
- Be healthier – I know, I know, EVERYONE resolves to do this around this time of year, but it is a pretty important one. I look at all my grandparents and they all lived well into their 80’s or 90’s, but they also were much more active than I’ve been (childhood years not withstanding, of course) so I guess exercise is looming on my horizon (drat!)…and they ate well…Or at least they didn’t eat a bunch of stuff that came in foil-lined bag (double drat!). In a way, I suppose this sort of ties into my first goal – new recipes, yay! And don’t worry, despite K’s gym-rat tendencies, I don’t plan on bombarding anyone with workout routines and crazy diets; perish the thought!
- Sewing Skills – My Mother is an excellent seamstress. She made pretty much all of my Halloween costumes growing up (still does actually!) and almost all of my formal dresses when I was in high school. Please, ask her about the dress I asked for with a ballgown skirt made ENTIRELY of fabric (20+ yards I believe)…go on, I dare you. She taught me how to embroider when I was younger, but I never got any further so my current sewing skills extend to cross-stitches and poorly mended seams, but I can sew on a mean button! There are several things I like the idea of having for the house, but dislike the price tag of so I think its time I got some needle and thread skills don’t you? Let’s hope my Mother and I refrain for physically harming each other during this process given that there will be sharp objects involved…
So what are some goals/resolutions you’ve made for yourself this year?
PS. Sorry for the lack of photos, but I haven’t really made too much headway on any of my goals yet!!
